Cyber Security landscape 2023

As we just dipped our pinky into 2023 the articles about Cyber Security in 2023 started to pop up on the internet. Some of them are exploring the the field as a career path and others talk about the new threats and vulnerabilities. I will review what I see about these topics.

2022 was another turbulent year with post-COVID issues, shrinking economies and rising inflation. The remote work and home office possibilities grew at the companies. A lot of new online businesses opened their virtual doors to the customers with in-house developed online shops and sales systems. People started to take IT Security courses to change jobs and try themselves in this ever-growing field. It affects our upcoming year a lot

With the information above and knowing how the IT budget grew for 2022 we can make our predictions and calculations for 2023. SWZD’s 2022 IT survey shows that there will be a 26% budget growth for IT budget at the companies.

As IT Security is trying to keep up with the growing number of cyber threats and attack surface there will be a bigger demand for entry levels and professionals on the market. Thought there are special jobs, companies and governments that require special certifications, a lot of Cyber Security job can be filled with experienced or entry level practitioners.

There were notable data breaches and some serious vulnerabilities got out under the sun to shape the IT Security landscape. Spiced by the growing cloud and SaaS solutions the responsibilities in the war against malicious actors must be shared by more teams and the management.

Cyber Security will be a growing field in 2023 along cloud and IoT. The changing technological requirements will demand different tactics for protecting against attacks. Penetration Testing and Red Teams will be used for finding attack surfaces before the black hats.

There are some great certificates to acquire and sites to study Cyber Security in great labs. If you want to start your adventure in the field there are many great resources on the internet.

The Cyber Security landscape looks promising for the year. We will have a lot of work to do, and a lot of attacks to defend against and/or avoid. I am sure we will have new tools too in our toolbox to use. With the growing IT budget for the year there will be more focus on security.

There is no entirely safe solution without educated people, thorough processes and good policies. The people are the weakest part of this chain, so there must be trainings for them about the topic especially for the privileged users. IT Security education must be accessible to everyone. This is one of the main purposes of this site I run. The rise of the social engineering attacks is bigger than ever. They use very sophisticated ways to obtain information. Cyber Security education is a key, so please follow me and stay up to date.

Let’s kick off the year, let’s stay safe and be careful.

Happy 2023 to Everybody!
