Sometimes we want to install Microsoft TrueType fonts on our desktop to see webpages in our browser as they were intended to be viewed.

Extend the APT sources.list
To be able to install non-free and contributed software in Debian we have to add them to our sources.list file if they are not already enabled.
Let’s open the /etc/apt/sources.list as root and look for the following entries:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main
Now change these entries to:
deb http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free
deb-src http://deb.debian.org/debian/ bullseye main contrib non-free
With this step we enabled the non-free and contributed software repositories.
Update the base system
Let’s update our system and pull the latest software versions with APT.
apt update && apt full-upgrade -y
Install the MS core fonts
Now we can install the TrueType fonts installer with APT.
# apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Reading package lists... Done

The following additional packages will be installed:
cabextract
The following NEW packages will be installed:
cabextract ttf-mscorefonts-installer

All done, no errors.
All fonts downloaded and installed.
Processing triggers for man-db (2.9.4-2) ...
Processing triggers for fontconfig (2.13.1-4.2) ...
When we got back the prompt, the installation is ready. The “All done, no errors.” outcome is that we look for.
If it is present, we have to log out and log in, or we have to reboot the machine to enable the changes.
Now we have MS TrueType fonts.
